The medium-pacer gets a five-for as the match ends in a stalemate
Jammu and Kashmir drew its Ranji Group C match against Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Monday.
After the host was bowled out for 329 in its second innings, the visitors were set a target of 150 in 16 overs, including the mandatory 15. J & K rustled up 56 for two in 17 overs, bowled in quick time to cover up Hyderabad’s slow over rate in the first innings, before the teams decided to call off the contest.
The northern side earned three points for gaining the first innings lead, while the local squad had to be content with one. Kashmir’s captain Mithun Minhas was adjudged man of the match.
The closing day’s honours belonged undoubtedly to Ram Dayal. Although he repeatedly beat the bat in Hyderabad’s first innings, he was low on luck to not land the spoils. The right-arm medium-pacer seemed to have reserved his best for the end, bowling with vigour and more importantly venom, striking success mostly when operating from the far end.
Striking regularly
Save for B. Anirudh being trapped leg before by Bandeep Singh, Dayal accounted for every wicket that fell till tea on Monday. The menace in his bowling lay in getting the ball to move and lift. The deviation foxed overnight batsman Danny Derek Prince early in the day to edge to second slip Parvez Rasool.
Hanuma Vihari, Danny’s partner from the day before, hooked Ram Dayal’s bumper straight to Zahoor Sofi, who didn’t have to budge to hold the top edge inches inside the ropes at long leg. Syed Ahmed Quadri didn’t last long, snicking to substitute Wasim Raza posted at fourth slip.
Mehdi Hasan was caught behind by Asif Khan, who donned the gloves again on becoming fit.
Stopping Kashmir’s march in its tracks was Kolla Sumanth, who quite effectively farmed the strike to shield the lower order batsmen. Seven boundaries, mostly consisting of off and cover drives, marked his 139-ball 78, that proved even more vital for the home side in that it spanned a minute over two and three quarter hours.
The Hyderabad wicket-keeper’s end came after tea, when his pull off Umar Nazir was picked up by Dayal at backward square leg. The strapping speedster then cleaned up the tail, clean bowling Anwar Ahmed Khan and Sudeep Tyagi, bringing the curtains down on Hyderabad’s second innings, about three quarters of an hour after tea.
