The Anand Vihar railway terminal, which caters to trains bound to east India, is gearing up for the festival rush with the addition of two new platforms.
Northern Railway has constructed two new island platforms — 4/5 and 6/7 — because of which the Anand Vihar terminal can now handle seven trains at a time.
“Platform 4/5 is 585 metres long and platform 6/7 is 510 metres long. Both are connected to two subways that lead to the concourse. Two elevators, one on each platform, has been provided for the benefit of senior citizens and differently-abled passengers. Also, tactile paths have been placed four feet from the edge all along the platforms for ease of movement by visually challenged passengers,” a Northern Railway spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said that the genesis of the Anand Vihar terminal in 2009 was a result of the initiative to de-congest New Delhi and Old Delhi railway stations.
“Now, with the addition of two new island platforms, we will able to handle more trains and a large number of passengers during the festival rush,” he said.
“Visual sign boards showing platform numbers, public amenities and reservation charts have been provided at conspicuous places for guidance,” he said.
“Public amenities provided on the platform include eight stainless steel water booths, two water coolers, 72 four-seater stainless steel benches under the shelter area and 27 concrete benches in the open area for the waiting passengers,” he further said.
