A week-long search by the Outer Delhi police finally led to the recovery of the boy and the arrest of the accused on Wednesday. The three-year-old Aman has been reunited with his parents who live in Kirari area.
The kidnapping took place on October 28. Deepak told his interrogators that he took the boy away from home on the pretext of offering him sweets. The same offer also ensured that the boy stayed inside the Saharanpur-bound train even after Deepak got off.
Police were initially clueless when the victim’s parents, street vendors by profession, approached them with a missing complaint. It was three days later that police learnt that Aman’s cousin Deepak too had been missing ever since.
Tracking his mobile phone location led to Deepak’s arrest from Mumbai. When he revealed the train in which he had left Aman, police tracked the route of the train and sent the child’s photo to each station where the train stopped.
“We soon had Ghaziabad police informing us about the presence of a child at a shelter home there. We immediately sent our team to bring the boy to Delhi,” said Vikramjit Singh, DCP (Outer).
