As many as 170 persons were on Sunday prosecuted for violating traffic rules at an intersection in Central Delhi, in a drive to curb people's tendency to violate traffic laws on Sunday and holidays when there is thin presence of traffic police.
The crossing of Ranjit Singh Marg and Mir Dard Marg in Central Delhi was chosen for this purpose. More than 20 teams with the help of PCR vans and local police carried out the operation from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. taking Delhiites by surprise, said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.
A total of 170 traffic violators were booked for various offences. In many cases, the persons being booked were car owners who had handed over the vehicle to minors. Some vehicles were also impounded, said Mr. Chander.
“There is a general impression that on Sundays and holidays there is thin presence of traffic police on the roads. This gives rise to the tendency to violate traffic laws by the motorists. In order to check and control this tendency, Delhi traffic police conducted operation Chakravyuh to prosecute violators of traffic rules particularly two wheeler riders,” said Mr. Chander.
“We will carry out operation Chakravyuh on various junctions and localities by surprise in the coming days,” he added.— PTI
