Ex-KSCA chief Ramprasad no more

Bengaluru, Nov 24, 2015, DHNS
KM Ramprasad
Former Karnataka cricketer and ex-president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, K M Ramprasad, 82, passed away here following a brief illness on Monday.

A right-arm medium pacer who represented Karnataka between 1959 and 1962, Ramprasad is survived by his wife Vijaya, a son and a daughter.

Ramprasad was the president of the KSCA between 1998 when the Brijesh Patel-led group came to power for the first time, defeating the group led by the late C Nagaraj.

He remained the president of the association till 2007, the year he hurt his spine in a freak accident at the M Chinnaswamy stadium after a fall. He was wheel-chair bound as a result of that injury and made only sporadic appearances during KSCA functions.

He also served as the vice-president of the BCCI and was part of BCCI’s three-member committee (A C Muthaiah and Kamal Morarka were the other members) which suggested that former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin be banned for life following match-fixing allegations against him. Ramprasad was also the manager of the Indian team during the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 held in Sri Lanka.
