I own the horror genre: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu on changing audience perceptions and her love for the supernatural.

After Alone (January, 2015), there has been no announcement of a film.

Such terrible subjects are being explored in cinema today. When you have made a name for yourself, it is better to not pick something random. I would rather relax. Having said that, I will be doing a film soon.

Meanwhile, you seem to be enjoying life to the fullest by going on vacations and chilling out.

(Smiles) This is my fourteenth year in the business, and I am also trying to take out time for myself. I don’t want to work 24 hours a day, for 365 days a year. I have never been that kind of person. I am enjoying theMONEY that I have earned (laughs). You know, so many actresses are telling me that they hate me because they see me enjoying my time. I tell them that if they want, they too can do so.

You are doing the TV show Darr Sabko Lagta Hai. Why TV?

I am being quite a risk taker. If you look around, the medium of entertaining is changing in India. International TV series dealing with the supernatural are popular. The audience is evolving and we need to give them something contemporary and modern.

Once the first episode is aired, you will know how big the series is. The best of talent is coming together to make it (the show is conceptualised by Raj & DK of Shor In The City, Go Goa Gone fame). I believe this is a way forward. Of course, I am going to do films as well.

But like your recent films, this show too mines the horror genre.

There are new stories to be told, new ideas to be explored. Every director has his own take on fear. I have worked with both Vikram Bhatt (Raaz series) and Suparn Verma (Aatma). Both have made horror films, but there is a marked difference in the way they approach the subjects. All these years, I have been encouraging the horror genre in films, and now I am continuing to do so in TV too. I actually own this space.
