The Raj Niwas told the DCW that the meeting will now take place on November 11 (Diwali). The DCW officials allege the L-G isn’t interested in meetings and women’s safety, which is why he has scheduled the next meeting on Diwali.
“Obviously, no meeting will take place on Diwali. This just shows the attitude of the L-G towards the issue. These are just ways to stop the Commission from doing work,” said sources in the DCW.
Soon after the meeting was rescheduled, DCW Chief Swati Maliwal tweeted: “V sad that LG has further delayed Women Safety Panel meet by 1 week. Was scheduled for tomorrow, imp women issues needed to be discussed [sic].” She said the DCW had been looking forward to the meeting as they had prepared a plan of action. Denying the move to reschedule the meeting was intentional, sources in the L-G Office said the meeting was rescheduled as other meetings had been planned.
“The officials in Raj Niwas must have overlooked and committed this error [by scheduling a meeting on Diwali]. They will change the date from November 11.”
Ms. Maliwal had met Mr. Jung on October 23 and the committee was constituted to review measures taken up for women’s safety in the city so far.
