In the light of the terror strikes in Paris, Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Sunday reviewed the security apparatus in place in the Capital.
Meeting the top Delhi Police officers, Mr. Jung directed them to ensure that all anti-terror measures are taken across the city within 24 hours. The officers he met included Special Commissioners of Police Vimla Mehra, Dharmender Kumar, Deepak Mishra, Muktesh Chander, Balaji Srivastava, Arvind Deep and S.S. Nanda.
The L-G was briefed by Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep about cases registered by them against ISIS and other unidentified terrorists.
According to police sources, Mr. Jung instructed the Special Cell to actively pursue the process of identifying people in the Capital who are sympathetic towards the terrorist organisation ISIS. The anti-terror unit has been monitoring social networking sites to keep an eye on the activities of any ISIS sympathisers. For now, more people from other units of the Delhi Police have been roped into the anti-terror unit.
The L-G also directed the police to activate the “eyes and ears” scheme, which has for all practical purposes been neglected over the past few years.
Mr. Jung also asked the police to hold meetings with all those who can provide necessary information. Besides this, he ordered that special vigil be observed around prominent hotels, malls, markets and other crowded places here, and that patrolling be intensified along with additional deployment at sensitive spots like airports and railway stations.
