Amit Majhi (23) who is allegedly responsible for the pregnancy of a minorstudent of Class X of a residential school in Kandhamal district has been arrested by the police. The school is managed by the welfare department of the state government.
According to the police, Amit was arrested from Muniguda in Rayagada district. In the second week of November, the girl of Badanga Government Girls’ High School in Baliguda block was found six months pregnant. The Administration had initiated a probe into the incident.
The SP of Kandhamal, the District Welfare Officer (DWO) and the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) had reached the school to make the inquiry. The mother of the girl had filed an FIR against Amit on November 14.
Initially the police were told that he was in Kerala. The police had planned to send a special team to Kerala to track him down. Meanwhile, Amit came to know that the police were searching for him, and he left Kerala. He then went to Muniguda of Rayagada district from where he was arrested.
After medical examination, he was sent to Baliguda court which rejected his bail plea.
It was alleged that Amit had become close to the victim during the summer vacation this year. He had physical relations with her on the promise of marriage.
