Former World champion and six-time Asian champion Manavajit Singh Sandhu fought his way past the shoot-off twice to stay in the hunt for a trap medal but ended up fourth in the Asian shooting championship in Kuwait on Monday.
Both Manavjit and Kynan Chenai were tied on 120 along with Fehaid Aldeehani of Kuwait for the last spot in the final. Manavjit pulled through by beating the Kuwaiti 8-7, after Chenai missed the third bird.
In the semifinals, Manavjit was tied on 13 with two others and went ahead of Zhang Yiyao of China. He lost the bronze medal match, rather comprehensively, 10-14 to Talal Alrashidi of Kuwait.
However, with the 32nd placed Prithviraj Tondaiman, the Indian team managed to take the bronze, fourth points behind China and two points ahead of Iran. The Indian juniors did better, as Lakshay won the individual silver and along with the fourth-placed Manavaditya Singh Rathore and Vrishankaditya Parmar won the team silver.
In women’s trap on Sunday, Olympian Shagun Chowdhary had shot 66 and missed the final by two points.
