Cultural exchange between students across the country will help in their development, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday as the city celebrated Children’s Day.
Speaking during the South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s event at Ambedkar Stadium, Mr. Rijiju said there was need for increasing cultural ties between students from the Capital and the North-East.
Stating that children were the foundation of the nation, he added that was need to motivate the young to become good citizens. Delhi being the Capital must improve its education system, Mr. Rijiju said.
Also at the event was East Delhi MP Mahesh Girri, who said the SDMC was working towards ensuring 100 per cent literacy. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, also a councillor in the SDMC, and Mayor Subhash Arya were among those who attended the event, where 2,500 students danced and presented aerobics on the theme of “One India”.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation also held an event in honour of Children’s Day, observed on Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary. The programme at Rani Jhansi Stadium began with two minutes’ silence for victims of the Paris terror attacks. The children then went on to perform folk dances and aerobics.
