He will be taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Underworld don Chhota Rajan will be brought to the national capital and will be taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The decision was taken on Tuesday at a high level multi-agency meeting that discussed various issues relating to Rajan’s deportation, including concerns about his safety. The deportation could happen as early as Thursday, senior officials indicated.
It is not yet clear under what sections Rajan would be charged by the CBI. Rajan is an accused in over 80 criminal cases of murder, attempted murder, abduction, smuggling and extortion. He is also wanted in connection with forging travel documents. The Indonesian police seized an Indian passport from him, purportedly issued by the Indian consulate at Sydney, in the name of Mohan Kumar.
Meanwhile, security at the CBI headquarters has been strengthened. However, it is expected that the underworld don will be lodged at an undisclosed location and not at the CBI headquarters.
The decision to hand over Rajan to the CBI ties in with The Hindu report on Tuesday. Mumbai police commissioner had told this paper that the CBI would take the final call on his custody.
The clarification on Wednesday, that Rajan would not be taken to Mumbai first, came against the backdrop of the don expressing concerns about his rival Dawood Ibrahim’s perceived influence in the Mumbai police and a section of the Indian security establishment favouring Rajan’s custody in New Delhi for safety reasons.
According to government sources, the gangster would arrive on a commercial flight via Bangkok on Thursday, accompanied by officers from the CBI, and the Delhi and Mumbai police.
“Officers from the Central intelligence and police agencies may join his interrogation. After the CBI custody ends, he can be handed over to the Mumbai and Delhi Police for investigations in their cases. About 75 cases are pending against him in Maharashtra. In Delhi, he is wanted in seven cases of extortion,” said a CBI official.
Acting on a tip-off by the Australian authorities, who in turn were alerted by the Indian agencies, the Indonesian police intercepted Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chotta Rajan when he landed in Bali on October 25. The arrest was carried out on the basis of an Interpol Red-Corner Notice issued against him in 1995.
The gangster had, in an interview to the media in Bali a couple of days ago, expressed concern at the possibility that he will be taken to Mumbai and suspected that some Mumbai police officers were operating in collusion with the fugitive Dawood Ibrahim.
Chhota Rajan had parted ways with Dawood following the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, which triggered a gang war and also got Rajan close to the Indian security establishment. A hit squad led by Dawood’s henchman Chhota Shakeel had, in September 2000, attempted to eliminate Rajan in Bangkok. The mercenaries tracked him down to a hotel and killed his close aide Rohit Varma and his wife.
However, Rajan managed to escape with bullet injuries. According to intelligence sources, Chhota Shakeel had once again attempted to kill him in Australia a few months ago.
