Village of soldiers celebrates Army chief's homecoming
Gautam Dheer, Chandigarh: Dec 27, 2015, DHNS
A sleepy nondescript village in Haryans’s Jhajjar district, that is otherwise acclaimed as a village of soldiers, on Saturday welcomed, perhaps, its best high ranking soldier– Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag flanked by his better half. Village Bisahan on Saturday celebrated the home coming of its son of soil.
Gen Suhag’s octogenarian parents, 85-year old retired junior commissioned officer Rampal and the Army chief’s mother Ishri Devi stay in the village that has produced hundreds of armymen.
Every second house in the village has a direct or indirect connect with the olive green. The Army chief first paid obeisance at the village temple after which he was welcomed at a school by village elders and members of the civil society.
It was time again for Gen Suhag to savour the local sweet dish of “Churma” made in desi ghee. Gen Suhag’s mother had prepared the same dish for her son when she went to attend his coronation last year in New Delhi.
Like other village lads, Dalbir studied in the village government school till Class IV, before he got enrolled in the military school in Chittorgarh where he studied till he joined the NDA.
