Citizens to get more say in task force
: The 15-member City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF), dominated by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) officials, will soon see more representation from local residents.
The task force, constituted under the Centre’s National Urban Sanitation Policy, was set up last month to prepare and implement the City Sanitation Plan. Besides the MCG and HUDA officials, the task force has only three citizen representatives including citizen volunteer Ruchika Sethi, who runs ‘Why Waste Your Waste’ campaign. MCG Commissioner Vikas Gupta is the convener of the task force, while the Mayor is the chairman and the Executive Engineer (Sanitation) is the nodal officer.
“There have been demands to include more residents in the task force. We have already initiated the process and might add five more members to the committee,” Mr. Gupta told The Hindu . He also said that Ward Committees will soon be constituted on the lines of the CSTF comprising five members each to monitor sanitation work at the ward-level.
Meanwhile, the CSTF met for the first time on Monday and focused on developing plans for better disposal of wet, dry, garden, electronic and construction waste.
