North Delhi Municipal Corporation has passed a proposal to hike one-time parking charges
: New vehicles are likely to cost more for residents of North Delhi as the local municipal corporation has initiated the process of hiking the one-time parking charges.
The North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee on Wednesday passed a proposal to increase the one-time or night parking charges levied on new vehicles. The proposal will have to be passed by the House before it is implemented.
The charges for non-commercial cars that cost less than Rs. 4 lakh will be hiked from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 8,000, and from 4 per cent to 15 per cent of the value of the car for vehicles above Rs. 4 lakh.
The proposal had included introducing one-time charges for e-rickshaws, two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and taxis, but the Standing Committee rejected those.
The charges for commercial vehicles will also go up , with truck buyers having to shell out Rs. 40,000 instead of the current Rs. 4,000.
Mohan Bhardwaj, the chairperson of the Standing Committee, said: “We had to hike the charges as the Delhi Government had instructed us to do so. But, we decide to keep the exemption for certain categories.”
The Opposition Congress, however, registered their dissent to the proposal.
“We are against any additional burden on people,” said Mukesh Goel, the Leader of the Opposition.
Meanwhile, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s (SDMC) Standing Committee on Wednesday exempted e-rickshaws from one-time parking charges.
According to government offficials the proposal to hike the charges will be moved by the SDMC as well as the North Delhi Municipal Corporation soon.
Charges for non-commercial cars costing less than
Rs 4 lakh will be Rs. 8,000, and 4%-15% of the value of the car for vehicles costing above Rs 4 lakh.
