The incident was reported near a police booth in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar

In an unusual incident, two men were killed by a single bullet, barely 100 metres from a police booth in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar.
The deceased have been identified as Deepak, 26, and his friend Manoj alias Montu, 25, both residents of Tilak Vihar. The incident took place around 10.30 pm on Thursday.
The prime suspect, Sai, is absconding.
Police said the duo were local ruffians and that Montu had spent three months in jail in a dacoity case before being released on bail less than a fortnight ago.
According to the police, the murderer was called by Deepak after he was involved in a scuffle with Montu. “Deepak’s cell phone records show he had called up the murder suspect Sai sometime before the murders,” said Dependra Pathak, Joint CP (South-Western Range).
According to investigators, it is suspected that either Deepak was physically restraining Montu when the shot was fired or he was directly in the line of fire.
However, the families of the two men believe that Deepak was killed while saving his friend. Montu’s father Rajveer claimed: “The killer first shot my son in his leg. Seeing that, Deepak caught him from behind to save him when the second shot was fired into my son’s chest.” The bullet first passed through Montu’s chest before piercing Deepak’s. While Montu died on the spot, Deepak died around 3 am at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
According to Montu’s brother Suraj, he had been lured out of his home by his friends a couple of hours before the murders. “They drank together at a park before they walked over towards Deepak’s house,” said Suraj.
Police said the problem began when Deepak met the group near Tilak Vihar police chowki. “Deepak felt that Montu’s behaviour had changed after his stay in jail. There was an argument over one-upmanship, which led to a scuffle,” said an officer. The friends broke them up and then left the duo alone. It was then that Deepak allegedly called his friend Sai, a resident of Rajouri Garden, who came with a loaded pistol and began assaulting Montu before he trained the gun on him.
A murder case has been registered.
