The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has written to Health Minister U T Khader recommending short-term measures to be taken to reduce the perinatal mortality.
Some of the measures recommended by the Commission, to put a curb on the perinatal mortality, are augmenting infrastructure and manpower at labour rooms, appointing three or more MBBS doctors to assist the obstetrician in labour theatre and improving cesarean facilities among others.
Kripa Alwa, the chairperson of the Commission, has further sought improved logistics.
The other recommendations include ensuring availability of blood, improving transport facilities in rural areas and establishing help desks.
