Be pout perfect this season
Beauty packs are passé, temporary lift job and photo shop...is oh so fake! So just how can you be pout-perfect 24x7...effortlessly! That is where your new best friend, a cosmetic surgeon comes in and confesses that the age and reasons for which people are going in for ‘life altering’ intrusive cosmetic medical procedures is raising many eyebrows.
“The clients coming in are definitely younger, more open to drastic changes and most come with one specific request: to look stunning at all times,’’ says cosmetic surgeon Dr. Anup Dhir.
“The first drastic upswing in the market was when Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai won the beauty pageant and more recently with camera-enabled cell phones coming into the arena, business has shifted into top-gear,’’ he says.
Every one wants everything, say doctors. “Bone contouring, nose correction, bigger eyes, fuller lips, higher check-bone, a sweet heart chin, scar-free face, butt surgery, toned arms, flat tummy etc... they want it all and in a hurry,’’ say doctors. They add that Diwali onwards the pressure to look good is tremendous and the festive/marriage season is when they are the busiest.
“A number of quick fix non-surgical procedures like lip augmentation, eye brow lift and wrinkle reduction using Botox and Juvederm are popular among men and women today,’’ said Dr. Sheilly Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, Medanta-The Medicity.
She adds that this year there is also a trend of “gifting” a cosmetic treatment to close friends and family.
“A lot of people who undergo cosmetic treatments are well settled professionals and businessmen, usually in their middle ages. Most aim to transform their looks. Well, the festive season emerges as the best time to gift themselves or their close family members a makeover with the help of Botox and other non-surgical beauty procedures,’’ said Dr. Kapoor.
Market watchers acknowledge that the need to think ‘out of the box’ ideas for gifting is also now nudging the cosmetic market forward.
“Partners are going beyond the conventional gifts of a beautiful dress, a solitaire, an expensive watch, and a pair of high heels or her favourite line of fragrances,’’ said a doctor from Kaya Skin Clinic, a popular skin care and treatment clinic.
“Non- surgical, quick cosmetic procedures like Botox and hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers like Juvederm are in demand,’’ said Dr. Charu Sharma, a well-known cosmetic surgeon.
But it isn’t women alone who are heading to these clinics, men too aren’t shying away from going under the knife to look good.
Said Dr. Gulhima Arora, consultant Dermatologist: “Men have become very conscious of their looks and indulge in beauty treatments from time to time.
“Demand for such treatments usually shoots up three to four times during festivals like Dussehra, Diwali and the wedding season as women want to gift their better halves a magic makeover.’’
“Some people are desirous of a more masculine jaw line whereas others aim to get rid of wrinkles and frown lines on their face.
“A lot of men want to emulate the looks of their favourite celebrities and utilise Juvederm fillers and Botox treatments to achieve this objective,’’ he added.
