Cyber city gets app to book autos
After a successful test run, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) on Thursday formally rolled out its ambitious app-based auto-rickshaw service called ‘G Auto’.
The MCG has roped in around 200 autos for the first phase of service that has been launched in partnership with Nirmal Foundation, an organisation running a similar service in Rajkot, Delhi, Surat and Gandhi Nagar.
Speaking at the launch of the service at Sector 39, MCG commissioner Vikas Gupta said that a sound transport system was the need of every individual as they need a good medical infrastructure. He said that the tranaport system in Gurgaon was lacking and efforts were being made by the MCG to improve it for the convenience of commuters. He added that a trial run of the “G Auto” was started on October 15 and the service was now being formally launched in view of the tremendous response.
Mr. Gupta also formally launched the app and distributed mobile phones to the “auto pilots”. He informed that more than a 1,000 “auto pilots” would be added to the service in a year’s time.
The app can be downloaded from www.g-auto.org. Once a person books an auto-rickshaw via the app, the route, fare and the driver’s profile would be available on the screen. The movements of these autos would be tracked from a control room in Sector 39 with credentials of all drivers verified by the police. Those who are not tech-savvy can dial the toll-free number 0927444444.
Nirmal Kumar, who runs the foundation, said that 40 per cent women in the country can not work because of inadequate transport service. He said that auto-rickshaws were the biggest transport service in the world.
The district administration is also working on launching an e-rickshaw service in Gurgaon in the next couple of months.
