CPM to woo middle class youth
New Delhi, Dec 26, 2015, DHNS
The CPM will soon start looking for for allies among intellectuals. Concerned at the stagnation in recruitments from the new middle class of the country, the party plenum at Kolkata will finalize the strategy for bringing middle class youths into the party fold.
The CPM feels that the middle class has been prey of “consumerist propaganda by global capitalism” which keeps them away from the Left ideology.
In an article for the party mouthpiece ‘People’s Democracy’, general secretary Sitaram Yechury has indicated about the strategy.
“A wide range of intellectuals, historians, educationists and cultural personalities should be mobilised to bolster this ideological fight against the communal forces,” he said.
This, the party leader says, has to be done in order to defeat “the current communal offensive in all its dimensions – the political, ideological, social, cultural and educational spheres”.
Hinting at the lack of communication between the potential supporters and the party, Yechury suggests that ideological and political propaganda material should be prepared in popular style and disseminated on a large scale.
