Bengaluru/Bagalkot, Apr 18, 2016, DHNS
BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa has returned the Rs 1.15-crore swanky Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to former minister Murugesh Nirani.
Yeddyurappa had planned to use the luxury SUV provided to him by Nirani during his tour of drought-hit districts. As the news hit the headlines, Yeddyurappa, on Saturday, told reporters that he would not use the vehicle to commute to drought-hit districts, but travel by train.
On Sunday, Yeddyurappa issued a press statement stating that he had returned the SUV to Nirani. He stated that, in his 40 years of political life, he had used various modes of public transport like bus and train to travel across the state. “I will use a similar mode of transport during my tour of drought-hit districts,” he stated.
Yeddyurappa will be touring the drought-hit regions in the state between April 27 and May 1.
‘Morally not right’Speaking to reporters in Bagalkot, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa said that it was “morally not right” for Yeddyurappa to tour drought-hit parts of the state in the swanky SUV of former minister Murugesh Nirani. He said that he congratulates the media for “cautioning” the BJP over the car issue at the right time.
