DMK vows to revive Jallikattu
April 18, 2016, Chennai, DHNS
In a bid to win voters in the southern districts, the DMK has declared that it would do everything to revive the sport of Jallikattu.
Campaigning in Madurai, DMK treasurer and son of its leader M Karunanidhi, MK Stalin, said the party would also revive Rekla race –in which bull-carts are raced- if voted to power.
Accusing the AIADMK of doing nothing for the people during its five year tenure, Stalin said it failed to take necessary steps to ensure conduct of the traditional sports during festival times.
Stating that Jallikattu was protected during the DMK regime, Stalin said the party’s government supported and stood by people in holding the bullfight that stood as a symbol of the state’s cultural ethos.
