Gogoi sends dossier to prez for removal of Assam guv
Guwahati, Nov 29, 2015, dhns
After writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove acting Assam governor P B Acharya and to appoint a fulltime governor, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of Saturday shot off a complaint to President Pranab Mukherjee requesting him to immediately intervene.
The ruling Congress has already given an ultimatum to the Centre. It alleged that the governor “is behaving like a BJP mouthpiece” and “a RSS Pracharak”.
Gogoi said that the continuance of Acharya as in-charge governor would cause immense difficulty in functioning of parliamentary democracy system and create fissures in the secular ethos of the state.
“We had welcomed Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya to our state as we presumed that being a high Constitutional functionary, he would conduct himself fairly, cautiously and circumspectly. However, I am pained to say that ever since assuming office, His Excellency, the Governor of Assam, through his actions, has steadily lowered the prestige of the institution of the governor,” he further added.
To make his point, Gogoi highlighted the public statement of the governor where he said that “Hindustan is for Hindus” on November 21. He also said Acharya took unilateral decision in nominating members to the Bodoland Territorial Areas.
However, the BJP has accused Gogoi with making baseless claims. Party national general secretary Ram Madhav said the governor has done nothing unconstitutional.
