Tennis ITF tournament : Top seed blanks Natasha in final to clinch title
Top seed Prerna Bhambri defeated second seed Natasha Palha in straight sets in the title clash to clinch the RGUHS Kalaburagi Open here on Saturday.
The world no 476 won the contest 6-0, 6-4 to complete a hat-trick at Kalaburagi. Prerna’s first title at the venue came in 2012 and the 23-year-old had won the KUDA ITF tournament here last week. It was also her third title in a row.
The top seed was in supreme form, clinching the first set, breaking her opponent in the first, third and fifth games.
The second set saw Natasha put up a fight till the sixth game. Prerna broke Natasha in the third game but was broken in the fourth to get the games back on serve.
Prerna lifted the level of her play and won three games on the trot, breaking Natasha in the seventh game. Natasha had three game points in her grip in the eighth game, but Prerna fought hard to hold serve.
The top seed then served out for the match and won the tie.
“I am really happy with the way I played and I am thrilled for having won three titles in a row over here”, said Prerna after collecting her trophy and a cheque for $1568. The win also fetched Prerna 12 ITF points. Natasha collected seven points and a cheque for $980.
