Student tries to jump to next hostel, falls to death
HYDERABAD: Dec 24, 2015, DHNS
A B Tech first-year computer science student on Tuesday had a fatal fall from the third floor of his hostel here while trying to jump to the adjacent hostel. He died in a hospital on Wednesday.
The incident happened around 4.30 pm when Ellenki Saikiran, 19, a student of the nearby Narasimha Reddy Engineering College in Maisammaguda tried to emulate his friend Sandeep by jumping from the parapet wall of Sai Balaji Boys Hostel to the third floor of Akshaya Hostel.
They were about to meet their friend Mandep to plan a movie outing. CCTV footage obtained by the police showed although a leaner Sandeep successfully jumped onto the other side, a more bulky Saikiran could not.
As he was hesitant to take the step, Sandeep asked him to jump slowly from the edge. But Saikiran slipped while trying to follow the advice and fell into the gap. The CCTV footage showed the boy falling down behind another student talking over the mobile.
Injuries
He received serious injuries in his head and chest and died on Wednesday in a private hospital in Suraram where he was rushed to.
Saikiran was an orphan and lived with his paternal uncle in Julupuradu in Khammam. Petbasheerbagh police have booked a case against the hostel management for negligence and are questioning Sandeep and the hostel warden.
The police said students of both the hostels used to take the dangerous route to go to the other building. Saikiran’s body was handed over to his relatives after the post-mortem.
