Venkaiah takes on Oppn over Ayodhya attack
NEW DELHI, Dec 24, 2015, DHNS
On a day when the Opposition raised concerns in Rajya Sabha over the stones arriving in Ayodhya for temple construction, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said every Indian wants Ram Temple but the question is “when, how and where”.
Arrival of stones from Gujarat and Rajasthan in Ayodhya for Ram temple construction raised heat in Rajya Sabha on the last day of the winter session with the Opposition forcing adjournments before allowing passage of three bills without any discussion.
As the issue created furore, Naidu was asked at a press conference about the issue and he initially sought to distance the government from the developments. “Does the government build temples? If you are interested, you are free to go Ayodhya,” he said. To a question whether he would like to see a Ram temple in Ayodhya, he told reporters, “All countrymen want to see a Ram temple. But the question is when, how and where”.
He refused to elaborate further. Earlier, the Rajya Sabha reverberated with slogans against the BJP and the NDA government led by it soon after JD(U) member K C Tyagi raised the issue in Zero Hour, saying the atmosphere is being vitiated by such acts. Members of the JD(U), Congress and Samajwadi Party rushed into the Well of the House while Opposition parties like CPM and CPI supported their cause.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the government is of the view that the court’s decision on the dispute should be accepted. There was no ban on carving of stones. Stone-carving does not mean that the temple was being built, he added.
