2019 Natl. Games: AP wins bid
Andhra Pradesh won the bid to host the 2019 National Games after Meghalaya withdrew from the bidding process after a series of meetings with its Andhra Pradesh counterparts.
Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh vice-chairman and managing director Rekha Rani, chairman P. R. Mohan and AP Olympic Association general-secretary Purushotham submitted the bid amount of Rs. 50 lakhs to the Indian Olympic Association secretary-general Rajiv Mehta at the 37th executive committee meeting of the association held at Guwahati on Wednesday.
“The bid amount is Rs. five crore and we have submitted Rs. 50 lakhs. We have promised to submit the balance (Rs. 4.50 crore) in a couple of days,” said S.M. Sultan, secretary, Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association, told The Hindu from Guwahati.
“The bid was unanimously supported by the 2,000-odd members who were present in the meeting,” he added.
SAAP director B. Hanumantha Rao said AP CM Chandrababu Naidu planned to host the event in the new capital, Amaravati.
