Cong has not fulfilled poll promises: KSE

UDUPI, Dec 14, 2015, DHNS:
Council Opposition leader says government has given ZP presidents power only on paper

Opposition leader in Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa alleged that Congress has failed in every aspect of governance.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Eshwarappa said the Congress government, which came to power two-and-a-half years ago, has not been able to fulfill the promises it made during the election campaign. The promise to empower the Panchayat Raj system remains just a lip service. The government had assured the Zilla Panchayat presidents that they would get powers equal to that of a Cabinet minister. But they have been given power just on paper, he criticised.

He also charged that the government has failed to empower gram panchayats. They are not given powers and have no sufficient funds for the administration. The Union government has released Rs 25 lakh for the gram panchayats. But the State government has not released funds for these local bodies, he alleged.

Eshwarappa said the government seems to be not much determined to implement drinking water projects in rural areas. The rural development and Panchayat Raj minister had promised that he would provide 7,000 units of drinking water by March 2016 and had also offered to resign if he fails in this respect. The government has provided only 1,000 units in November and 6,000 units are still pending.

“BJP does not wish that minister should resign. It will be incredible, if the minister will be able to install another 6000 units by March next year. How he will do it? It was not possible in the last two-and-a-half years. Will he do it now?” he questioned.

He said it would be better that the minister takes another six months as the target and completes the proposed projects. Elaborating on the administrative failure of the State government, the BJP leader said the government has failed to curb the increasing violence against the women. The committee set up for the purpose is ineffective and has seen two chairmen within the few days of inception, he criticised.

Eshwarappa said more than 900 farmers have committed suicide in the State. However, compensation has been provided to the families of less than 200 farmers, he claimed.

Stating that Siddaramaiah’s government is the worst ever government. Massive corruption has taken place in Energy Department in which the 20-meter line connection was offered without tendering, he alleged. He said the Congress will not come to power again in the State.

He also ridiculed the show off by the government for the programme ‘Hosa Belaku’ which is entirely funded by the Union government. An expert committee should be set up to evaluate the pros and cons of the Yettinahole project before implementing the decision, he added.
