PATNA, Dec 25, 2015, DHNS
The Grand Finale of the Indian Crossword League (IXL) 2015 will be held in Bangalore on Friday.
At the end of the 10th and the last preliminary online weekly round on December 6, the top 30 on the final Leaderboard became eligible for the final round. In addition to them, the toppers from the two offshore rounds at Toronto and New Jersey were also qualified for the same.
The finalists will go through a preliminary written round before the onstage final and one of them will lift the National Crossword Champion trophy.
The event will be held at Hotel Royal Orchid, Old Airport Road in Bengaluru. Among the top 30 on the Leaderboard are Mohsin Ahmed, an ISRO scientist and a third time finalist Ramki Krishnan, the winner of the previous edition.
Col Deepak Gopinath (retd), the winner of the inaugural event in 2013, will be the chief arbiter of the competition.
It is organised by Extra-C, a non-profit organisation based in Patna. The League aims to bring Indian crossword enthusiasts across the globe on a common platform in order to promote a fun-filled intellectual pursuit.
The IXL has been acknowledged as one-of-its-kind event by the Limca Book of Records. The first-ever IXL was inaugurated in Patna but concluded in Bangalore on December 21, 2013, where Col Deepak Gopinath emerged the winner.
X denotes cross in the crossword playing society and hence it was named IXL instead of ICL.
