B'lore University appointments: HC notice to State, varsity
Bengaluru, Nov 27, 2015, DHNS:
The High Court recently ordered notice to the State government, Bangalore University and six syndicate members of the university in a petition challenging their appointment to BU.
The petitioner, BV Srinivas, has contended that N Vijay Kumara Simha, Jayanna, SJ Daniel Fernandes, Nafis Fathima, BG Ravikumar and Manjunath KR are not eminent educationists or professors.
They do not hold any PhD degree or authored any books. The petitioner further contended that the aforementioned persons have been appointed as Syndicate members purely based on the recommendations by HM Revanna, a Member of Legislative Council.
The petitioner has said that the appointments are bad and illegal and violate the provisions of Karnataka State Universities Act.
The petitioner has sought directions to stay and quash the letter, dated September 21, 2015, written by the State government to Bangalore University and the notification issued on September 22 appointing them as syndicate members. Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri ordered notice and adjourned the hearing.
