New Delhi: Stroke is a leading cause of disability. However, if a patient can reach a hospital within four hours of the attack and clot-bursting drug IPA can be administered, the clot will get dissolved and blood flow restored.
Addressing a stroke awareness programme marking the World Stroke Day, Suman Kushwaha, Head of the Neurology Department at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), said one in six persons suffer a stroke.
Aldrin Anthony, Assistant Professor (Neurology), explained the risk factors like high blood pressure, smoking, alcohol, obesity and coronary artery disease which make one more prone to stroke.
Among others who took part in the programme were director Sunil Kumar, deputy medical superintendent Deepak Kumar and Assistant Professor (Neurology) Siddharth Maheshwari.
