A Delhi court on Saturday dismissed a plea by former Delhi Law Minister and AAP MLA Somnath Bahrti for a further probe into a case of alleged barging into a flat of African women, criminally intimidating them, and outraging their modesty by a mob at Khirki Extension in Malviya Nagar at midnight in January last year. The Delhi Police have charge-sheeted Mr. Bharti and 16 others in the case.
Additional Sessions Judge Bhupesh Kumar dismissed Mr. Bharti’s appeal against an earlier order by the Metropolitan Magistrate dismissing his application for a further investigation into the case.
The Delhi Police had apposed Mr. Bharti’s plea, arguing before the Magistrate that the application was not maintainable as the charge sheet filed against him had not been taken cognisance of.
Mr. Bharti in his application had alleged that the police had suppressed crucial facts, statements of several witnesses, and a video recording of the incident while charge-sheeting him in the case.
The Delhi Police have alleged, “Nine African women were victims of molestation and manhandling by a mob led by Mr. Bharti.” These women are among the prosecution witnesses mentioned in the charge sheet.
