The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has decided to hold a first-of-its-kind community-oriented summit — TheGurgaonStory — to provide a platform where citizens can share ideas and make Gurgaon the ideal Millennium City.
The first edition will be held on November 1, coinciding with Haryana Day, in association with YourStory Media Pvt. Ltd at the Epicentre here. The objective of the event is to bring a sense of belonging among the residents and provide an ideating ecosystem for stakeholders of Gurgaon. It will enable people from different professions and stakeholders like the civic agencies, government and corporate to come together with ideas that help nurture Gurgaon using technology, innovation, design and entertainment.
The audience will consist of more than 300 business leaders, scientists, visionaries, educators, artists, students, community organisers and entrepreneurs from Gurgaon. “No one would have imagined that an economic wasteland that Gurgaon was considered to be in the 1980’s, would evolve to be the financial hub for Haryana and a globally reckoned model just a decade later. There’s no denying the fact that the distinction of being called a Millennium City is well-deserved and suitably-earned. The role of civic agencies like the Municipal Corporation in the exponential trajectory of the city has become all the more crucial. A lot has happened and we would say a lot more is yet to be done,” said a release issued by the MCG.
It added that one of the pre-requisites for any city to come up with a development model was active citizen participation.
