Uphaar: members call on Kejriwal

Representatives of the Association of the Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT), on Thursday, called on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to discuss 'procedural delays' related to the promises that he made to them two months ago.
The meeting, which took place at Mr. Kejriwal's office in the Delhi Secretariat, consisted of a discussion over the disbursement of the Rs. 60 crore fine on the Ansals to the Delhi government as per a direction from the Supreme Court and culminated in the appointment of a senior public prosecutor in an important case pertaining to the tragedy, according to a senior official privy to the proceedings.
“Yes, we called on the Chief Minister this afternoon for a meeting and are happy with the fact that he has appointed Mr. Dayan Krishnan as the Senior Public Prosecutor to represent us in a criminal case related to the tampering of judicial records of the main case at a city court,” Neelam Krishnamoorthy, convenor, AVUT, told The Hindu .
According to a senior Delhi government official, Mr. Kejriwal also set the ball rolling on his promise of extending legal aid to AVUT by consenting to give Ms. Krishnamoorthy access to the Delhi government's 'legal team'.

On August 21, the AVUT had also demanded that the Delhi government reject the sum of Rs. 60 crore which the Supreme Court had directed should be deposited with it as a fine by the convicts with the Chief Minister assuring them that the government was seeking legal opinion on the matter and would take a considered decision taking into account the sentiments of the victims' families.
