Shubhankar Sharma eased into a two-shot lead at the Take Solutions India Masters with a fine second round of eight-under-par 64 here on Thursday.
The 19-year-old signed for a two-day total of 15-under 129 at the Eagleton Golf Resort to lead from the pair of S. Chikkarangappa and Himmat Rai (131).
In fourth place was the overnight leader, Greg Moss (132), with a bunch of five players perched three strokes further behind.
By his own admission, Shubhankar did not hit the ball well on Wednesday. On day two, though, his iron play was impeccable, with almost all his successful birdie putts holed from inside 10 feet. The par-four 18th was a notable exception, when The Gurgaon-based youngster made birdie from 20 feet.
Missed chances
“I bogeyed the third and missed a couple of eagle opportunities on four and seven, but I’m happy with how I played today. I hit the ball really well,” he said afterwards.
Tied for second were Rai and Chikkarangappa, the latter shooting a bogey-free round of 66. “I didn't hole any long putts today; everything was breaking away at the cup,” he said. “I need to read the line better.” Chikkarangappa was pleased, though, with having salvaged some three birdies out of troublesome positions in the rough.
It was another day of low scores at the event (jointly sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour and the PGTI), with the cut applied at a remarkable four-under 140. Fifty-one professionals advanced to the third round.
The results (top nine after 36 holes):
